New Delhi: Jahangirpuri locals held a Tiranga Yatra on the evening of April 24. This comes few days after communal violence erupted in Jahangirpuri. The Yatra was held to spread the message of communal harmony, togetherness and peace.

On April 16, Hanuman Jayanti Processions were being carried out. The processions witnessed communal violence in Jahangirpuri. In the incident nine were injured including eight police men.

This Yatra started from Kushal Chowk. Hundreds of locals participated in the Yatra. The individuals were seen waving Indian National Flag. The Yatra covered distance of one kilometer and ended after reaching the chowk back. “The yatra should have been done soon after the violence. It would have eased the tension in the area,” A 32-year-old resident of C-Block by the name of Kutub, who joined the peace yatra with his two kids, Rihan and Ayan, was quoted as saying by The Times Of India.

The Yatra began around 6 pm in the evening. Before the Yatra started, DCP (Northwest) Usha Rangnani asked people to follow all the COVID protocols and not raise any communal slogans. To maintain peace and harmony in the area, security was deployed in the area. The yatra was monitored through a drone as well.

People were seen standing on the terraces of their homes, and the streets also showered rose petals on the participants. The crowd was heard chanting Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai.

From C-Block, the Tiranga Yatra marched towards the market and shopkeepers were witnessed shooting videos of this peaceful display. “A few anti-social elements disrupted the peace in C-Block. We are now more united,” 52-year-old Suraj Kant Shukla stated.
