“We Are Not Against Religion, We Are Against Loudspeakers”: MNS After Nashik Police Directives

Nashik: On Tuesday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena spokesperson, Dr. Vageesh Saraswat, said that they are against the use of loudspeakers and not against any religion.

“We are not against any religion. We are against loudspeakers. The Maharashtra government is taking a few decisions and we will decide our strategy after the state issues guidelines,” Saraswat said.

He said that MNS Chief Raj Thackeray is against noise pollution. Few days ago Thackeray had asked to remove loudspeakers from Shivaji Park where bhajans were being played. Raj Thackeray is demanding that the Supreme Court guidelines should be followed.

These comments from MNS came a day after the Nashik Police issued directives prohibiting the use of loudspeakers without permission at religious places. The cops have also said that playing Hanuman Chalisa 15 minutes before and after Azaan is being offered, will be prohibited.

The police has also prohibited playing Hanuman Chalisa within the range of 150 meters radius of mosques. A detailed order for applying similar restrictions through out the state is likely to be issued within two days, the Maharashtra Home Department said.

Commenting on the Nashik Police’s directive, Saraswat said: “Nashik police has issued certain guidelines against playing Hanuman Chalisa after and before Azaan. It’s a state issue. Let the state guidelines come in.”
