Ashraf Sehrai replaces Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani as interim Chairman of Hurriyat

Srinagar, Mar 19: The senior separatist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani has stepped down from the position of chairman. Moreover, Tehreek -e- Hurriyat (TeH) and the decision-making body (Majlis-e-Shoora) have appointed Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie as the interim Chairman, till the organizational elections happen this year.

Though he is the Chief Patron of the TeH and will remain at that top position but he has stepped down reportedly due to his failing health.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat spokesman said that Geelani while addressing the members of Shoora, briefed them about the present situation in Kashmir and apprised them about the sacrifices made by him during past for Kashmir independence.

Geelani in his address told the member that how he remained firm with his stand even after facing jails and other actions.

He appealed them to continue the struggle as no other option has left than fight back with more will and vigour.

He extended his fullest cooperation to the would-be leaders of the organization.
