BJP and Congress caught in social media tussle, allege each other of having links with analytics firm

Prasad also alleged Congress of sharing private data of Indian citizens with Cambridge Analytica. He asked, “Will the Congress Party now depend upon data manipulation and data theft to win elections?”

After Manish Tewari from Congress stated that the Election Commission should conduct an investigation as to which party had some connections or is linked to the firm of Cambridge Analytica, Ravi Shankar Prasad of BJP alleged that the Congress has connections with the said data analytics firm.

Cambridge Analytica has been seeing testing waters with an investigation being done by Channel 4 of Britain which alleged that the company gathered private data of users of Facebook in 2014.

Prasad of BJP alleged that the Congress party has stolen data and manipulated it to win the elections. He also posed a question on the role of Cambridge Analytica with regards to management of the social media of Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi.

Though, quite before that, Tewari took it to Twitter stating that the EC “should enquire/recommend (an) investigation (into) what services & to whom they were offering” these services in the country.

Later on, after Prasad made his accusation, social media head of Congress, Divya Spandana refuted his charge.

Prasad also alleged Congress of disbursing private data of the Indian citizens with Cambridge Analytica. He asked, “Will the Congress Party now depend upon data manipulation and data theft to win elections?”

Prasad further stated that he favours the social media, its misuse will not be accepted, particularly by foreign firms.
The firm that is popular to be instrumental in managing US President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign for the year 2016, is now undergoing a government search of its office in London, interrogation from the state authorities of the US and a demand by Facebook that it gives in to a forensic audit.
