Delhi High Court issues notices to all 2G accused after ED-CBI file an appeal

The Delhi High Court issued a notice today to all those who were accused in the 2G scam case after an appeal was filed in by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. The date set by the high court for hearing the plea is 25 May.

The ED moved the High Court of Delhi on Monday contesting the acquittal of A Raja the former telecom minister and DMK MP Kanimozhi among others in the case of money laundering of 2G spectrum scam case.

It was on 21 December last year, that a special court of CBI acquitted A Raja along with 18 other people that included Dayalu Ammal M Karunanidhi’s wife and daughter Kanimozhi of the charge of money laundering. The court, for that matter, had also made an order to release the properties attached in the case worth Rs. 223 crore.

The appeal that was filed by the joint director of ED Rajeshwar Singh stated, “Special judge committed a grave error by acquitting the accused of the offence under Prevention of Money Laundering Act on the basis of acquittal in the CBI case and without applying mind and considering the PMLA offence as a separate, independent and standalone offence to be tried and adjudicated.”
