A day after assuring the prompt discharge of conscripted Indians in the army and their subsequent return to India, Russia’s Charge d’Affaires Roman Babushkin on Wednesday claimed that Russia “never wanted Indians to be part of the Russian Army”. “They are there purely for commercial reasons”, Babushkin further remarked. When asked about compensation to the families of those deceased, Babushkin mentioned that “contractual obligations” mean it “should happen”.
