India Refrains From Voting On UN Islamophobia Resolution

India abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution on Islamophobia proposed by Pakistan and China. India argued for recognizing “religiophobia” against Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and other faiths. The resolution ‘Measures to combat Islamophobia’ passed with 115 in favour, none against, and 44 abstentions, including India. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj condemned all acts of anti-Semitism, Christianophobia, and Islamophobia but emphasized recognizing that such phobias extend beyond Abrahamic religions.
