Pakistan General Elections To Be Held On February 8th

Despite escalating election violence and security issues, Pakistanโ€™s Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja stated on February 1st that the general election will proceed as planned on February 8th. In a meeting with the Interior Minister and police chiefs, Raja acknowledged fragility in law and order, especially recent attacks on the ECP and political parties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

Acharya Balkrishna, Patanjali Ayurvedโ€™s managing director and associate of Yoga guru Ramdev, has regretted the companyโ€™s deceptive product claims and their medicinal effectiveness in the Supreme Court. The apology came after the courtโ€™s rebuke for ignoring a contempt notice regarding misleading advertisements. Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah instructed Balkrishna and Ramdev to appear in court on April 2. In an affidavit, Balkrishna affirmed his respect for the law and offered an โ€œunqualified apology,โ€ pledging to prevent similar advertisements in the future.
