Karti Chidambaram arrested in the INX Media case, gets bail

After being in custody for 23 days, Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was granted bail today. He was arrested on 1 March this year from the Chennai airport after he had alighted a flight coming from London. Karti was accused of getting clearance of the government for foreign investments that amount to Rs. 300 crores for INX Media, the television company in exchange for the bribes given in the year 2007.

As per the investigators, he had made good use of his father’s influence who held the position of Union Finance Minister in the UPA government.

More so, the Central Bureau of Investigation, that is handling the case as of now stated that Karti was not cooperating with the investigators while they wanted to question him and keep him in custody.

On the other hand, both Karti and his father, the former Union Minister have termed the entire case to be a “political vendetta”. Karti told that he was being unnecessarily targeted for the simple reason that he is the son of a politician.
