10 Mumbai Cops Test positive For Covid-19 After Catching Infected Thieves

Two teams of 5 members each, involved in arresting, interrogating, and taking them to the court, have now tested positive for Covid-19.

Mumbai| At least 10 policemen from Nehru Nagar police station In Mumbai’s Kurla were found Covid-19 positive after they arrested a gang of thieves in a case of hop break-in recently.

The policemen tested positive earlier this week and are being treated for the same.

The policemen solved the case of theft in an electronic shop in Mumbai’s Chembur. Based on tip-off last week, they arrested 7 members of the gang. After the arrest, the accused were remanded in police custody and their samples were sent for coronavirus test.

Five of the seven accused tested positive for coronavirus, after which the policemen who came in contact with them were also tested. Two teams of 5 members each, involved in arresting, interrogating, and taking them to the court, have now tested positive for Covid-19.

The five accused, however, are being treated in JJ hospital under police watch.

On Friday, 3493 cases of coronavirus infections were found and 127 patients died in Maharashtra. More than 55 thousand infected have been found in Mumbai. NCP leader and cabinet minister Dhananjay Munde was found positive.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 101141 cases. Among them 49628 are active cases, 47796 have been cured whereas the death toll is at 3717.

The state is followed by Tamil Nadu with 40698 cases and Delhi with 36824 cases. Gujarat remains the fourth most affected state with 22527 cases and 1415 deaths.
