“101 Arrested, No Muslim”: Maha Home Minister On Sadhus’ Mob Lynching

Home Minister Anil Deshmukh categorically says that none of the arrested accused is Muslim and once again appeals to not communalise the incident.

Mumbai| State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said today that none of the 101 people arrested so far for the lynching of three men in Maharashtra’s Palghar district last week is Muslim.

Home Minister slammed the BJP-led opposition in the state for adding a communal colour to the horrific incident & confirmed the case had been given to Maharashtra criminal investigation department.

He declared that the 101 people were arrested within 8 hours of the incident and that their names would be released. He added that a “special officer of IG rank” in the CID was probing the Palghar lynching.

Talking about to controversial video clips that allegedly contained the word ‘Shoaib’, a Muslim name, the home minister highlighted that, “There was a sound heard in the video, ‘oye bas’; people circulated it online and some called it ‘Shoaib bas’.”

The Quint on Tuesday reported that the videos about ‘Shoaib’ had been widely circulated to provoke claims of Muslim link in the Palghar lynching. PRO of the Palghar SP Gaurav Singh was quoted by The Quint as saying, “no ‘maar Shoaib maar’ slogans can be heard in the videos”.
