14 More People In India Found Infected With New Coronavirus Strain, Ban On Britain Flights Extended

A new strain of Coronavirus was found in a woman from Andhra Pradesh who returned from Britain. After landing at Delhi Airport on 21 December, she was sent to the isolation centre.

 

New Delhi| The number of patients in India infected with the more infectious coronavirus strain- that was first found in Britain has increased to 20. On Wednesday, 14 new patients were found. Of the seven patients found yesterday, one each is from UP, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while three are from Karnataka. Meanwhile, the government has extended the ban on flights to and from the UK till 7 January. It was earlier banned from midnight of 22 December to 31 December.

A new strain of Coronavirus was found in a woman from Andhra Pradesh who returned from Britain. After landing at Delhi Airport on 21 December, she was sent to the isolation centre. However, she escaped from the centre and reached her house in Rajahmundry by special train. The woman was accompanied by her son. However, the son’s report has turned out to be negative.

The central government has been in an alert mode after new strain cases have surfaced. The Health Ministry said on Tuesday that genome sequencing of international passengers who arrived in India between December 9 and 22, if found to be synaptic or infected, would be mandatory.

33 thousand passengers recently arrived from Britain

Between November 25 and December 22, around 33,000 travellers from Britain arrived in India. Of these 114 people have been found to be coronavirus positive so far. New genomes are being detected in some more samples. Patients found are kept in isolation at the Covid Center set up in the states. People exposed to them have also been quarantined. Other people who came in contact with the new infected are also being traced.
