44 People Living In Same Delhi Building Test Positive For Covid-19

Delhi is one of the worst-hit states by the Covid-19 pandemic with 3,738 cases of infection with 61 deaths linked to the virus.

New Delhi| 44 people living in the same building in Delhi’s Kapashera have tested positive for coronavirus, officials informed today. The residents were tested for Covid-19 ten days ago, they said.

The 44 residents are believed to have come in contact with one coronavirus patient who tested positive on April 18.

On the very next day, the authorities had sealed the area and collected samples of 175 people from the locality dated on 20 and 21 April.

Out of those samples, the results of 67 people arrived today. Out of 67 people, 44 have tested positive for the Covid-19 disease. The delay is results have now raised concerns in an area that the infected people may have transmitted the virus to other people in the congested area of the South-West district, near Gurgaon.

All districts of the national capital have been classified as “Red Zones” owing to more than 10 cases of Covid-19 in every district.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said that all these districts will remain in “Red Zones” till May 17.

“All 11 districts in Delhi will stay in the Red Zone till May 17. A red zone is defined where there are more than 10 cases of COVID-19 in a district. Relief measures given by Centre in red zones will be applicable here,” Mr Jain was quoted by news agency ANI.

Apart from Delhi, other metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai have also been classified as red zones and would be under lockdown till 17 May according to the new extension order issued by Home Ministry. Overall 130 districts across the country have been identified as red zones.

India recorded its biggest single-day spike in the number of cases today with 2293 new people testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infected people to 37,336. Till date, around 1,218 have succumbed to the deadly virus in India.
