700 DMK party workers arrested for waiving black flags against Governor

Villupuram: The Tamil Nadu police today arrested around 700 DMK workers for staging a black flag demonstration against Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit’s visit to review the implementation of schemes pertaining to ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission at a village in the district.

The DMK party workers led by DMK MLA Ponmudi were protesting against Governor Purohit in front of the Collectorate, from where the police arrested them.

The DMK alleged that the review meetings held by the governor amounted to “interference” in the state’s autonomy. The Raj Bhavan along with AIADMK has rejected these charges against the governor.

The protest was a part of similar other protests during Purohit’s field visits to various districts in the state by the DMK.
