‘Aao Phir Se Diyaa Jalayein’, PM Modi Shares Vajpayee’s Video Reciting Poem

Tweeting with the caption ‘Aao Diya Jalayein’, PM Modi tried to garner more support for his proposed initiative to light diyas and candles on April 5.

Mumbai| Tweeting in the aftermath of his address to the countrymen, in which PM Modi asked people to light up, lamps, candles to showcase the unity in the fight against COVID-19, he shared a number of tweets by renowned personalities who supported his initiative.

What stood out from these tweets was a clip of Former Prime Minister Late. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, reciting his poem ‘Aao Phir Se Diyaa Jalayein’. Tweeting with the caption ‘Aao Diya Jalayein’, PM Modi tried to garner more support for his proposed initiative to light diyas and candles on April 5.

“In that light, in that luster, in that radiance, let us resolve in our minds that we are not alone, that no one is alone,” PM Modi had said in his address to the nation on Friday morning.

Although the move by Prime Minister drew criticism from the opposition party leaders who felt that the economic troubles created by the three weeks lockdown to control the spread of the virus are more important than the proposed idea.

“Symbolism is important, but serious thought to ideas and measures is equally important,” said P. Chidambaram, former Finance Minister, and senior Congress leader.

In a tweet posted after his address, PM Modi said, “the feeling of oneness created by the Sunday exercise would strengthen our resolve in our fight against the pandemic.”

India is currently under a 21-day lockdown in order to contain the spread of deadly coronavirus.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier asked for a similar act from fellow citizens on the one-day curfew he imposed, called Janata Curfew. He had asked people to clap, bang thalis at 5 PM to applaud the doctors, nurses and health workers fighting against the coronavirus on front.

On Friday, in his address, PM Modi appealed citizens to light lamps and candles at 9 PM on 5th April to show the solidarity in the fight against the coronavirus.
