Six municipal corporations in the state went to polling on Sunday and counting of votes was held on Tuesday.
Though the BJP won 93 seats in the 120-seat Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), thereby retaining the power in tbe civic body, the AAP won the remaining 27 seats. The Congress, which had won 36 seats in SMC last time, was reduced to zero seats.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, the AAP leader, made the announcement and said that Kejriwal will hold a road-show in Surat city on February 26 “to thank the people”.
The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), once led by Hardik Patel who joined Congress party, gave it’s valuable support to Kejriwal’s AAP.
According to PTI report, though the PAAS is now virtually defunct, two of its prominent members – Alpesh Kathiria and Dharmik Malavia – are still active in Surat and command support in the community.
After differences over ticket distribution, both Kathiria and Malavia had openly pledged to defeat the Congress.
Kejriwal’s party had fielded 470 candidates across six corporations.
