After His ‘Ambulance’ Heroic, Pappu Yadav Arrested For Violating Covid Rules

The leader was held this morning for allegedly moving around in a vehicle without a permit. However, Pappu Yadav has said that he was helping families fight the pandemic.

Patna| Pappu Yadav, the Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) chief and former MP, was arrested on Tuesday for violating Covid-19 protocols in Patna of Bihar. The leader was held this morning for allegedly moving around in a vehicle without a permit. However, Pappu Yadav has said that he was helping families as Bihar is witnessing a spike in the Covid-19 cases.

Patna DSP Suresh Prasad told India Today that the JAP chief was arrested for violating lockdown rules and roaming around without a permit.

Pappu Yadav, speaking with the media, alleged that he has been arrested for another reason that “the Bihar government and Nitish babu [CM Nitish Kumar] are aware of”. Pappu Yadav said nobody gets arrested only for violation of lockdown.

“They’ll tell you why I have been arrested. I have helped every family for 1.5 months, I was at it despite coming out of an operation. The govt and Nitish babu will know what this is. An arrest doesn’t take place for violation of lockdown,” the JAP chief said.

The leader was also tested for Covid-19 at the police station. His antigen test results were negative. Pappu Yadav, taking to Twitter, said: “It is a crime to put one’s life at risk to save lives during the corona crisis, if so, then yes I am a criminal.”

Meanwhile, the main opposition party in Bihar Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has extended support to Pappu Yadav. Mrutunjay Tiwari, the RJD spokesperson, compared Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with German dictator Hitler and accused the chief minister of “suppressing the voices being raised against dictatorship”.

Earlier on Saturday, an argument had erupted between Pappu Yadav and BJP MP from Saran Rajiv Pratap Rudy after the former found out a fleet of ambulances unused, covered with tarpaulin and parked on premises belonging to Mr Rudy.

Pappu Yadav demanded to know why the ambulances were kept off the roads and not being used when the district and state is battling a huge rise in Covid cases, and medical resources like ambulances, drugs and oxygen are in short supply.

Mr Rudy, who’s an MP from the Saran constituency that was previously held by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, responded to Mr Yadav’s allegations saying the ambulances were stationary because of a lack of drivers.

After Mr Rudy’s challenge to Pappu Yadav to bring drivers and take away the ambulances for use, Mr Yadav indeed came in front of Media with a team of drivers. He also asked Mr Rudy where and when will he hand over the ambulances as he had arranged for the drivers.
