UP Police arrest brother of BJP MLA accused in Unnao rape

According to the victim, in June last year the BJP MLA and his brother raped her. She also alleged that after lodging an FIR, she started receiving death threats from the politician.

A day after the shocking death of the father of a rape victim in police custody, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested the accused BJP MLA’s brother in Unnao. Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a local BJP MLA was accused of rape. Reportedly, the brother of Sengar is accused of harassing and torturing the victim’s family.

According to the victim, in June last year the BJP MLA and his brother raped her. She also alleged that after lodging an FIR, she started receiving death threats from the politician. However, she said that despite lodging an FIR no action has been taken by the police so far. After that, the victim and her father also had tried to self-immolate outside the UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s office.

While the state’s BJP government is drawing backlash for poor handling of the matter, the Unnao MLA seems to be unperturbed. Refuting the allegations made by the victim, he said, “The allegations are a criminal conspiracy.” He also called those who are making the allegation of “low status”. He was also spotted smiling at the cameras when he went to meet the Yogi Adityanath at the CM office in the matter.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer-SP Chaudhary said that when the victim’s father was brought to the hospital, his intestine had been damaged and had contacted an infection. “He went into shock and later passed away,” said SP Chaudhary.

On the other hand, the rape victim has demanded swift justice. Talking to a news agency, she said despite the FIR the accused Kuldeep Singh (Sengar) isn’t being arrested. “I don’t know if his brother is arrested. They’ve made my life miserable. I want justice. They killed my father,” said the victim. She also demanded that both the accused should be hanged till death.
