“Avoid all non-essential travel to Iraq until further notification” says Indian Govt

On Wednesday Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq where American troops are based, said Pentagon

New Delhi: As rising tensions between US and Iran, the Indian government on Wednesday issued a travel advisory for Indian citizens visiting Iraq. Indian nationals are being asked to avoid all non-essential travel to Iraq, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in its advisory.

“In the current situation in Iraq, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iraq until further notification,” the advisory by Ministry of External Affairs said.

On Wednesday Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq where American troops are based, said Pentagon. Iranian state TV said it was an act of revenge as US killed Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani. Iran’s pre-eminent military commander Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike on his convoy at Baghdad airport.
