Bajaj Becomes World’s Most Valuable Two-Wheeler Company

With an entry into Thailand last year, and a proposed entry into Brazil, the company has been continuously expanding its global footprint.

Becoming the first two-wheeler company in the world to cross a market capitalization of Rs 1 lakh crore, Bajaj Auto has become the world’s most valuable two-wheeler manufacturer.

On the NSE on January 1, 2021, the company’s share price closed at Rs 3,479 per share, making it’s market capitalisation Rs 1,00,670.76 crore at this price. This milestone comes as Bajaj celebrates the 75th year of its operations.

Bajaj’s market cap is considerably higher than all other domestic two-wheeler companies. A market capitalisation of over Rs 1 lakh crore, according to analysts, has not been achieved before by any international two-wheeler company anywhere in the world. Bajaj auto, therefore, is not only the most valued company in the two-wheeler segment but also the first-ever two-wheeler company in the world to have reached this market cap milestone.

Beginning its journey 75 years ago in India, Bajaj auto now has brands like Pulsar, Boxer, Platina and RE popular in over 70 countries. With an entry into Thailand last year, and a proposed entry into Brazil, the company has been continuously expanding its global footprint. In 2019, Bajaj auto also revived its brand Chetak and launched a premium electric scooter. The conglomerate also announced a major investment of Rs 650 crores in a fourth plant to be built in Chakan, Maharashtra for a premium range of motorcycles and electric two-wheelers.

Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj, said: “The company’s sharp focus on the motorcycle category and its unwavering commitment to strategies of differentiation as well as the practice of TPM combined with global ambitions have today made Bajaj the most valuable two-wheeler company across the globe. This inspires us even more to serve and delight customers all over the world”.
