Bengal Chief Secretary Unlikely To Follow Centre’s Order To Move To Delhi: Sources

Mr Bandyopadhyay was ordered to report to the Department of Personnel and Training in Delhi’s North Block by 10 am.

After a row erupted last week over the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, followed by the controversial order by the centre to recall the Bengal chief secretary to Delhi immediately, sources now say that Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay is unlikely to report to Delhi as ordered.

Mr Bandyopadhyay was ordered to report to the Department of Personnel and Training in Delhi’s North Block by 10 am.

However, according to sources, the state’s top bureaucrat is still in Kolkata and has not yet been relieved of his duties by the Bengal government. The top bureaucrat, as per news agency PTI, is still scheduled to participate in a Tuesday review meeting to be led by Chief Minister Banerjee.

Earlier, just hours after Mamata Banerjee skipped what was to be a detailed meeting with Prime Minister Modi to assess the impact of Cyclone Yaas, Mr Bandyopadhyay’s recall order was issued by the centre.

During the meeting, WB governor Jagdeep Dhankar and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari were also present.
