BMC’s Drive In Vaccination Facility For 60+ Gets Thumbs Up From Citizens; More Centers To Come Up

A notification issued by the BMC on Thursday asked all zonal deputy municipal commissioners to set up these drive-in facilities at large open grounds such as Andheri Sports Club, Cooperage Ground, MIG Ground, Jio Garden, Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, Ghatkopar Police Ground, etc.

After the success of the city’s first drive-in vaccination center set up by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Dadar earlier this week, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal has ordered more centers to be set up across the city within 24 hours, only for citizens above 60+ coming for Covishield, strictly by appointment

In a bid to expedite the vaccination drive and reduce the crowd at existing vaccination centers, the BMC opened its first drive-in vaccination facility at Kohinoor public parking lot near Shivaji Park in Dadar earlier this week. According to a civic official, over 400 people over the age of 60 got the jab on Day 1 at the center.

The notification also orders that proper arrangements be made, including single-lane barricades, inlet/outlet control inside the stadium to ensure no traffic jam on adjoining roads. It also asked adequate shelter and facilities be made for staff, mobile toilets, drinking water, etc.

It also ordered the beneficiary to be vaccinated to not self-drive and be accompanied by an attendant in each vehicle in case of any events of adverse effects.

Mumbai, unlike the rest of the country, seems to have turned the corner as far as the second wave of COVID-19 is concerned. It recorded 3,056 positive cases in 24 hours as of 6th May, 6pm.
