The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis deal.
ED has asked the court to set a date for taking cognizance of the charge-sheet. The next date of the hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 4, said Additional Sessions Judge Ruby Alka Gupta.
The probe agency has charged Karti under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002. On 2 May, a special court here extended till 10 July the interim protection against arrest granted to him in the Aircel-Maxis deal case.
The ED has mentioned the name of former union minister P Chidambaram at various places in the charge sheet but he has not been arrayed as an accused in the case. The agency told the court that it may file a supplementary charge sheet in the case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation and the ED are investigating Karti’s alleged role in getting Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance in the Aircel-Maxis deal when his father P. Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister in 2006.
