CM Arvind Kejriwal Announces “Operation Shield” In Delhi To Tackle COVID-19

Operation SHIELD will be implemented in the neighbourhoods that have a high concentration of COVID-19 cases and will be totally sealed off.

New Delhi| The Delhi government has come up with a name for its strategy to contain the spread of the highly infectious COVID-19-: Operation SHIELD. As per the government strategy, SHIELD stands for Sealing, Home quarantine, Isolation and tracing, Essential supply, Local sanitation and Door-to-door checks.

CM Arvind Kejriwal said that 21 areas have been identified as containment zones in Delhi and these areas have been sealed, people are not being allowed to enter or exit from these areas.

“All people in these areas will be under home quarantine. They will not be allowed to leave their homes. COVID-19 confirmed cases in these areas will be isolated and people they came in contact with will be traced,” added CM Kejriwal.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tweeted on Thursday: “I appeal to all living in the containment areas to cooperate with the Delhi govt’s Operation SHIELD. These are strict measures but are necessary to protect you and others from COVID-19”

Since the area is under total lockdown, essential supplies will be delivered to homes. The government will conduct rigours sanitisation of the entire locality.

The Delhi CM said that under door-to-door checking, each home will be visited by medical professionals to check if anyone has COVID-19 symptoms.

As per the central government’s data, Delhi has registered 93 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total cases to 669. This includes nine deaths and 21 people who have been cured and released.
