Nandurbar| Nandurbar, the district in North Maharashtra now has 8 new cases of coronavirus with one reported death. The district was considered ‘green zone’ till last week until it reported its first case this week.

A mother and her merchant son tested positive in Shahada of Nandurbar, resulting in the death of the son due to Covid-19. 29 swab samples of the people who came in contact with these patients including family members and others have been taken. 79 people from the secondary contact list have been screened as well. The residential area where the patients were found has been declared as ‘containment zone’. The administration is still trying to find the source of infection to these patients.

Surprisingly, the merchant from Shahada who tested positive had travelled to 16 villages in last month during the lockdown. The administration is now on its toes to contact trace the people he had met.

Nandurbar had 8 new cases till Friday. Today, the DM of the district tweeted informing that 3 new cases have been detected.

Considering the demography of the district and it is being distant from the power centres of the state, Covid-19 pandemic is a serious threat to district like Nandurbar.

The majority population of the district is ‘Adivasi’ (tribal). There’s an issue of connectivity in many areas of Dhadgaon and Akkalkuwa Tehsils. It would be important for the administration to contain the spread of disease before it reaches the rural parts of the district.
