Coronavirus Update: WHO Data Shows India Recorded More One-Day Cases Than US, Brazil In Past 7 Days

India’s recorded 60,963 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total Covid-19 tally to 23,29,639. Recoveries rose to 15,83,490, according to the union health ministry data. After 834 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths from Covid-19 rose to 46,091.

Having 56,110 COVID patients recovered and discharged yesterday, India has recorded the highest number of recoveries in a single day.

“If These 10 States Beat Covid, India Can Win”: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a virtual meeting today with Chief Ministers to review the coronavirus situation, said a view has emerged that India will win against coronavirus if 10 states defeat it. He further added that those 10 states account for over 80 percent of the active COVID-19 cases in the country.

“A view has emerged that if we defeat coronavirus in 10 states, the nation will also win. We need to follow a new mantra – all those who have come in contact with an infected person should be traced and tested within 72 hours… It has emerged from the discussion that there is an urgent need to ramp up testing in Bihar, Gujarat, UP, West Bengal, and Telangana,” PM Modi said.

India Stands Second After US In Coronavirus Testing: Donald Trump

India stands second in terms of coronavirus testing while no other country comes close to the United States, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday. According to the US president, while the US has tested close to 65 million people for coronavirus, India stands second with 11 million tests.

“We have tested close to 65 million people and no country is even close to that number. India would be second at 11 million (tests) and they have 1.5 billion people. We have the number one testing in the world by far and also the highest quality tests,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday.

“I feel strongly that we will have a vaccine by the end of the year and it will be put into service as soon as we get it,” he further added.

The US President also said that there has been a decline in COVID-19 cases by 14 percent in the last seven days in the United States.

India’s One-Day Covid Count More Than US, Brazil In Past 7 Days: WHO Data

According to an analysis of WHO data, India’s single-day count of COVID-19 cases for the past seven days has been more than that of the US and Brazil, the two worst-hit countries by the pandemic across the world.

The third worst-hit nation in terms of infections, India has also accounted for over 23 percent of the cases and more than 15 percent of the deaths reported worldwide between August 4-10, the data shows.

4,11,379 COVID-19 cases and 6,251 deaths due to the disease were recorded in India in a span of seven days till August 10, while the United States which has the highest cases and deaths registered 3,69,575 infections and 7,232 deaths during the same period.
