Covid Patients, People Over 65 Eligible For Postal Ballots In Bihar Elections: EC

The postal facility for voting has so far been reserved only for people over the age of 80 and those who are not in their home state.

New Delhi| Ahead of the assembly election in the state of Bihar, Election commission today announced that people over the age of 65 years will be able to vote by postal ballot in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The polls are expected to be held in October-November.

People over 65 are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus, along with pregnant women and others suffering from comorbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and kidney ailments.

Health authorities and the government have been continuously discouraging such people from coming out of their houses.

The facility for the postal ballot will also be provided to people infected with coronavirus who are in quarantine.
