“What Have You Done For Bharat Mata?”: Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera

In an exclusive interview to HW News, national spokesperson of Congress party Pawan Khera hit out at Prime Minister Modi over his remarks.

In an exclusive interview to HW News, national spokesperson of Congress party Pawan Khera hit out at Prime Minister Modi over his remarks. Mr Khera was responding to the comments made by Prime Minister in his campaign rally, where he had said that some people have a problem in raising slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

When asked what does he think about the plausible outcome of Bihar polls after two phases of voting have been completed, Khera said he’s convinced that the grand alliance is moving towards two-thirds of the majority. “We are convinced that Bihar’s public has blessed Mahagathbandhan this time. Now we are moving towards two-thirds of the majority. After the third phase of voting in Seemanchal, we’re convinced that we will gain two-thirds of majority,” Mr Khera reiterated.

Responding on Prime minister’s remarks about raising “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” slogans, Mr Khera said: “It is a strange remark. It doesn’t suit someone of the stature of Prime Minister. If he’s able to tell what he has done for the children of Bharat Mata till now, she will be pleased by that. Bharat Mata isn’t pleased by such comments by PM Modi. Migrant labourers from Bihar who had to walk back home during the lockdown without any food to eat, struggling with an empty stomach, they too were sons of Bharat Mata. So for these people “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” is just a slogan For us, it is a responsibility.”

When asked if they had released a video on migrant workers just to emotionally blackmail them, Mr Khera responded saying, “These are strange words. I don’t understand these words. We are in politics to raise voice about such issues. People have suffered due to these issues, and if we forget that, then we have no right to remain in politics. We are in politics to fight for the rights of these people.”

On the question of repeated barbs of “Jungle Raaj” from PM Modi and Nitish Kumar, Mr Khera said: “Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Babu are making such comments out of frustration. These type of comments do not suit their stature and only reduce the level of discourse. This is the seventh year since PM Modi came to the office. There’s “Mahajungle Raaj” in Bihar right now. We all have seen the NCRB data. There’s been a whopping 150% rise in crimes. Still, the Prime Minister makes such comments.”

Mr Khera highlighted that every government has to face the consequences of the mistakes it had committed. “The mistakes that this government has committed in the last 15 years, it’s high time they get punished for that,” Mr Khera added.

When asked whether the grand alliance has cracked any deal with Upendra Kushwaha if it doesn’t reach the majority mark, the Congress spokesperson assured that such situation will not arise.

“Mahagathbandhan will be elected in Bihar with full majority,” Mr Khera concluded.
