Agartala : Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb again leads a controversy by asking police officials not to fear ‘Contempt Of Court,’ stating that he would deal with such cases. He said that the court will give order but, the one who will imply the order is police, and police is under him. He also said that the civil service officers are scared of the courts as if they were ‘tigers.’
During addressing the 26th biennial conference of TCS Officers at Rabindra Bhavan Chief Minister said, “I am told by many officers that they cannot perform a particular task because doing so will cause contempt of court. Why fear that? The court will give its judgement, but the police will implement that. The police is under my control. Police has several methods and I am witness to that end.”
“I am at the helm of this government elected by the people,” he said. “People say ‘by the people’ government, not ‘by the court’. The court is for people, people aren’t for the court.”
Last week Deb was taargetted by Trinmool Congress over his election promises. Responding to the criticism by TMC he called the TMC “political migrants” who are showing the dream of half a loaf of bread. He said that Tripura people Know how to stay with dignity, and will not compromise with just half-a-loaf of bread. TMC has attacked him with the issue of unemployment and and have started to prepare for 2023 Assembly Elections.
The Chief Minister said that BJP is working on employment, ” BJP government has been opening a host of avenues for employment while claiming to bring transparency in hiring for government jobs. Everyone was getting equal job opportunities with no political ifluence.”
The Opposition parties criticised the comments made by Deb. Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tripura Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury says that Deb’s comments were “astonishing” and “unfortunate.” He said, “How can a person holding the chair of the highest constitutional person of a state pass a comment, which is totally against the spirit of the Constitution? It is abusing the spirit of the Constitution.”
Chaudhury also said that Deb’s comments were undermining the law and can encourage miscreants.
Another controversial issue between BJP and TMC is about teachers appointment. BJP Government had came to power by promising to reinstitute 10,323 teachers who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court termed their recruitment process unconstitutional in 2017.
Despite of being on throne for more than 3 years, the Biplab government failed to fulfil its election promises. The TMC has been needling the BJP government over the issue.
