Five arrested for lynching Muslim couple for allegedly carrying ‘beef’

Seoni (Madhya Pradesh) | Three men and a woman were thrashed for allegedly carrying beef in an autorickshaw on May 22.

The videos of the incident have been doing rounds on social media.

The wife was repeatedly beaten on the head with a slipper, whereas a man was tied to the tree and beaten with a stick.

The video further shows them forcing the three to shout Jai Shri Ram slogans.

“The video is four days old and four people have been arrested. They have been sent to jail by a local court. One more accused has been arrested. He will appear in court today,” local police officer Lalit Shakyavar said.

Dunda Seoni police station incharge Ganpat Uikey told a media organisation that Shubham Baghel, a habitual offender, Yogesh Uikey, Deepesh Namdev, Rohit Yadav and Shyam Dehriya have been arrested for assault. The five have been booked under IPC sections 143, 148, 149, 341, 294, 323 and 506 and also section 25 of arms act.

Instead of informing the police, the men took matters on their own hands and held the passengers hostage and interrogated them, witnesses said.
