Former FM Yashwant Sinha Taken Into Custody After Protest At Rajghat

Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha protested at Rajghat to demand the deployment of forces to take the migrant workers home with dignity.

New Delhi| Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, AAP MP Sanjay Singh and others supporters sat on a dharna at Rajghat in New Delhi asking that the armed forces be called in to assist migrant workers to reach their homes.

They were detained for a few hours on Monday.

They requested for proper arrangements for moving stranded migrants back to their respective states at the demonstration.

The former BJP leader, a strong critic of the NaMo government, said civilian officials, be it from the centre or states, have “failed” migrant labourers who have been forced to walk to their homes, leaving some even dead in the process.

“Our simple demand is that the responsibility must be given to the armed forces and paramilitary forces that they should, with all the means at their command and with whatever civilian resources they can commandeer, send these migrant workers to their homes with dignity,” Sinha said.

He had said he would continue with his dharma until his requests are not met.

Dilip Pandey, Aam Aadmi Party MLA said:”the government has the capacity to run 20,000 trains daily and ferry 2.3 crore people daily across the nation. It should use this capacity to help people.”

However, they were picked up Delhi Police later in the evening and taken to a nearby police station.

The police told India Today TV that they were only detained and no charges have been filed against them.

There has been a series of accidents leading to the death of several migrants on-road and even due to exhaustion and hunger.
