Srinagar| 8 months after being detained, Forme Cheif Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has been shifted on Tuesday to her official Gupkar residence in Srinagar from a make-shift jail.
Although, her detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) will continue as her home has been declared as a subsidiary jail.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of Section 2 of the Prisoners Act, 1990, the government hereby declares Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar as “Subsidiary Jail”,” an order by Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary to the government read.
Mehbooba Mufti, along with two other former chief ministers- Farukh Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah- was detained after union government scrapped the article 370 that provided a special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The state was divided into two union territories.
On February 6, the stringent PSA was slammed against Mufti and Omar Abdullah, just one day before they were supposed to be released from the detention. Though Farukh Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were released last month, Mufti still stays under detention.
Tweeting moments after the news of Mufti being shifted to her residence, Omar Abdullah said, “@MehboobaMufti must be set free. Shifting her home while continuing to keep her detained is a cop out.”
