Bhubaneswar: The state government today appointed former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik as the executive chairman of Odisha Youth Welfare Board (OYMB), officials said.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved his appointment here today, they said.
Arup Patnaik had joined the ruling BJD on April 18.
“Sri Patnaik has been given the rank and status of a Minister of State,” a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
As the executive chairman of the Board, the former Mumbai Police chief will look after the ‘Biju Yuva Bahini’ programme, which was launched with an objective to nurture leadership and volunteerism, promote sports and sportsmanship, and healthy living among the youth of the state.
Arup Patnaik had worked as the 36th Police Commissioner of Mumbai.
He retired on September 30, 2015, after 36 years of service in Maharashtra Police.
Arup Patnaik has received the Indian Police Medal for meritorious service in 1994 and President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in the year 2003.
