New Delhi: The Sangh Parivar including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organisations on Wednesday invited former Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan to speak at the World Hindu Congress in Chicago. The event marks the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekanands historic address to the Parliament of World Religions.
One of the Organisers told the media that ā Rajan has said he will try, so we are hoping he will make it.ā
The decision comes as a surprise as many leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, were critical of Rajan’s policies during his tenure as RBI governor.
The organisers have listed Rajanās name among the speakers at the āWorld Economic Conferenceā, which is part of the event, as Katherine Dusak Miller distinguished service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. The other participants in the economic conference include SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh, Piramal Group chairman Ajay Piramal and KPMG India chairman Arun Kumar.
Swami Vivekananda had addressed the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago on September 11, 1893. The World Hindu Congress will be held in Chicago from September 7-9. The other guests invited to the event, held once in four years, include RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Hollywood star Richard Gere and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
