Ghulam Nabi Azad stopped at Srinagar airport

Ghulam Nabi Azad

Srinagar | Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was on Thursday stopped at Srinagar Airport, reported news agency ANI.

The reason for the obstruction is yet to be determined.

Earlier today, Ghulam Nabi Azad made a remark on National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, which was heavily criticised by the BJP.

However, heavy security has been deployed in the newly-formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

All of the local leaders, including former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, have been placed under house arrest.

The events have followed after the Centre decided to revoke Article 370, which gave special status to the state. The President has also approved the Bifurcation Bill, which divides the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

All the communication lines have been cut- including landline phones and the internet, along with Section 144 and a curfew.

Belagavi (Karnataka) | A video has come up which shows some locals merrily dancing on a waterlogged national highway in Belagvi, or Belgaum.

The flood situation following incessant rains in western Maharashtra’s Kolhapur continued to remain grim, affecting nearly 51,000 people and 200 villages and submerging over 340 bridges, officials said.

Five rescue teams of the Navy were mobilised to provide assistance to those affected by heavy rains in Kolhapur and Sangli, a defence spokesperson said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the flood situation in various parts of the state and directed the authorities concerned to make adequate arrangements of food, drinking water and other essential items for those affected.

“Around 204 villages out of total 1,234 in Kolhapur have been affected due to the floods. Total 11,000 families, comprising nearly 51,000 individuals, are affected and 15,000 people have been shifted to safer places,” Shinde told PTI.

“Besides, 342 bridges have gone underwater and are closed for vehicular movement. Around 29 state highways and 56 main roads have also been shut. The Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway No.4 and the Kolhapur-Ratnagiri highway (part of the Mumbai-Goa national highway) are still shut,” he said.
