Goa poll panels to be discussed in Delhi BJP meet

Panaji: State Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) functionaries held a meeting in Delhi for constituting a state election committee and election campaign committees, among others, to start the process of selecting candidates and chalk out a detailed plan for poll management with assembly fast approaching.

The committees will be announced shortly. The meeting was attended by BJP national president J P Nadda, home minister Amit Shah, Goa BJP election in charge Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister Pramod Sawant. BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and BJP general secretary (organisation) Satish Dhond.

During the meeting Nadda analysed the political situation in Goa and guided the state’s functionaries on overcoming anti-incumbency and winning the election. Home minister Amit Shah is likely to visit the state after Diwali to oversee the election preparation and finalise the poll strategy.

Other committees that will be announced include the IT cell and election-related committees. Once the state election committee is declared, it will seek names of aspiring candidates, including names of sitting MLAs from BJP mandals in each constituency.

Once the names are received the state election committee will shortlist them as per their internal survey and hold meetings with mandais before preparing the final list. “Once the final list is prepared, names will be sent to the parliamentary board to announce the candidate’s names a senior BJP functionary said.

During his recent visit, Shan told the BJP care committee and MLAs that the party has a better chance at winning the poll compared to 2007 as the anti-31P votes will be divided between three national parties, including Congress. All mate Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Sawant had said that the BJP ticket has not been assured to all sitting party MLAs for the upcoming 2022 assembly polls. He had said that allotment of tickets will be based on the MLAs performance, indicating that some non-performers may face the axe.

“Every party always does this,” he said.

“No party is able to give tickets to everyone. It all depends on how one has performed how good one’s connect is with the people. I will not say that all (MLAS) will get a ticket. It is not possible at all. Everyone knows it. Every time, every state practices this. The same will be done in Goa.”
