Jodhpur: The District and session court today adjourned the hearing of 1998 blackbuck poaching case till July 17 on Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s plea challenging the trial court order sentencing him to a five-year jail term.
Judge Chandra Kumar Songara adjourned the hearing after the defense counsel Mahesh Bora sought time to begin arguments.
Earlier on April 5, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri had sentenced Khan to five years in prison for killing two blackbucks during the shooting of “Hum Saath Saath Hain” in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of October 1, 1998. Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre and Dushyant Singh were acquited by the court on “benefit of doubt” of the incident.
Salman Khan had to spend 2 days in jail after then-District and Sessions Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi granted him bail on April 7 in the case.
Khan today appeared before the court in compliance with the directions given by the court on April 7 while granting bail. The actor was asked to be present in front of the court on May 7 while hearing his plea for suspension of sentence.
