New Delhi| The Indian space agency ISRO released the first picture of the moon taken from India’s Chandrayaan-2 satellite on Thursday. The satellite is currently revolving in the Moon’s orbit. ISRO said that the LI4 camera of Chandrayaan-2 took this picture of the moon on August 21 from a height of 2,650 km from its surface.
ISRO tweeted the picture, “Take a look at the first Moon image captured by #Chandrayaan2 #VikramLander taken at a height of about 2650 km from Lunar surface on August 21, 2019. Mare Orientale basin and Apollo craters are identified in the picture.”

After circling the Earth for 23 days, it took 6 days for Chandrayaan 2 to reach the Moon’s orbit. On September 7, a soft landing will be made at the predetermined location (South Pole) on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan 2 weighs 3,877 kg
Chandrayaan 2 was launched with India’s most powerful GSLV Mark-III rocket. This rocket has three modules orbiter, lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyan). Under this mission, ISRO plans to land the lander at the south pole of the moon. Chandrayaan-2 weighs 3,877 kg. This is almost three times more than the Chandrayaan-1 mission (1380 kg). The speed of the rover inside the lander is 1 cm per second.
