India To Evacuate Over 15,000 Indians Stuck In 12 Countries

After arrival in India, these Indians will be screened and put in 14 days quarantine either in hospital or quarantine facility on a payment basis, the statement read.

New Delhi| The government on Tuesday informed that it’ll fly back around 15,000 Indians stuck in 12 countries abroad due to the coronavirus lockdown. the operation will be carried out with the help of 60 flights in the first seven days starting from May 7.

“Government of India will be facilitating the return of Indian nationals stranded abroad on compelling grounds in a phased manner,” the statement read. The statement also added that only those with no symptoms will be allowed to travel.

Sources said that the government is targeting evacuation of around 2000 Indians every day from countries like the Gulf, the US, the UK, Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia till 13th May.

India has prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) and all the high commissions and Indian Embassies are preparing the list of distressed citizens stranded in their country, according to the ministry.

“This facility would be made available on payment-basis. Non-scheduled commercial flights would be arranged for air travel,” it further added.

Medical screening of the passengers will be done before boarding these flights and only the asymptomatic ones will be allowed to travel.

During the journey, they will have to follow the protocols issued by the health ministry as well as the civil aviation ministry.

“On reaching the destination, everyone would have to register on the Arogya Setu app,” the Home Ministry said. “Everyone would be medically screened. After scrutiny, they would be quarantined for 14 days, either in a hospital or in an institutional quarantine on payment-basis, by the concerned state government,” it further said.
