India recorded 12,428 fresh cases, 356 deaths recorded

Mumbai: India recorded fresh 12,428 Covid-19 cases today lowest surge in nearly eight months, the latest data showed, as the government cautions against letting the guard down amid the festive season. 356 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The country’s active caseload (1,63,816) is the lowest in 241 days. India has logged 3,42,02,202 infections since the start of the pandemic. The Covid-19 situation in India is under control for the past 2 months. 

The weekly positivity rate stood at 1.24 per cent this morning; it has been less than 2 per cent for the last 32 days. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.1 per cent; it has been less than 2 per cent for last 22 days. At 98.19 per cent, the recovery rate is the highest since March 2020.

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition against mass vaccination and insisted: “Vaccination is the key to protect people from coronavirus.”

The government has told the states to widen the vaccine coverage amid the festive season.

Across the country, states have been witnessing a drop in daily cases. Maharashtra, which has the highest overall cases, on Monday logged 889 fresh infections, the lowest daily rise since March 2020.

Few states have started witnessing a surge in new Covid-19 cases in the post-festive week. West Bengal, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh reported up to 40% spike in new Covid-19 cases last week.

Worldwide, over 24 crore cases have been logged so far; 49.5 lakh people have died.

US President Joe Biden on Monday signed an order that lifts severe travel restrictions on China, India and much of Europe from November 8.

The emergence of the new Delta ‘sub variant’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore further fuels the fear of the Covid-19 third wave in the country. Research regarding the new mutant is still in the initial phase. However, studies so far show that this mutant is far more transmissible than the Delta variant. The approaching winter season might make things even worse.
