The total number of COVID-19 cases in India surpassed the 18,000-mark on Tuesday morning as the death toll nears 600.
New Delhi| In attempts to flatten the curve of COVID-19, India is under lockdown, however, some states continue to see a rapid increase in cases.
In the last 24 hours, India recorded at least 1,336 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
This takes the total count to 18,601 including 14759 active cases, 3252 cured/discharged/migrated and 590 deaths as per health ministry.
As per the health ministry’s data, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra (4,666), followed by Delhi (2,081), Gujarat (1,939), Madhya Pradesh (1,485), Rajasthan (1,576) and Tamil Nadu (1,520).
Tamil Nadu has 1,520 cases. 457 people have recovered and 17 people have died due to the disease. On April 20, 43 new cases were reported.
Andhra Pradesh has a total of 722 cases, with 92 cured and 20 deaths. There were 75 new cases reported on April 20 in the state.

Maharashtra has a total of 4,666 cases, with 572 recoveries and 232 deaths. The state saw 466 new cases and 9 deaths on April 20.
The global death toll from the coronavirus has now crossed over 1,60,000 people, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
At least 160,717 people have died from novel coronavirus and more than 2.3 million cases have been confirmed worldwide.
