Institutions are bigger than individuals: Kiran Bedi

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today said “institutions are bigger than individuals” and that the union territory had the potential to be self- sufficient and rich in several respects.

In a message under the banner ‘Joy at Work’ to the people of Puducherry on the eve of her completing two years in office, Bedi said she was grateful to all who “respected and reposed faith in the office of Lt Governor. Institutions are bigger than individuals.”

Bedi further said she was in Puducherry “not in my personal capacity but appointed to fulfill responsibilities as an administrator entrusted to me.”

She said from day one of assuming charge (May 29, 2016) she had been concerned about certain basic issues impacting the present and future of Puducherry such as water, sanitation, security and fiscal prudence.

“We are now getting into the comprehensive process of drafting policies relating to various departments or updating the present policies, making standard operating procedures and a vision plan for Puducherry for the next decade,” the Lt Governor said while thanking Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar and officials of various departments.

This plan would help achieve a “prosperous Puducherry” in various sectors including agriculture, skill development, education, environment, health, tourism, and transport among others, she said.

She said Puducherry has the potential to be self- sufficient and rich in several respects and “it only needs right kind of sustained stewardship, elected representatives, public officials, community workers and more.”

Bedi also announced that next month Raj Nivas (the Lt Governor’s official residence) would add an enabling platform called “Raj Nivas to Lok Nivas” programme for group participation and collaboration to promote a sense of social responsibility.
