India Records Over 50,000 COVID-19 Cases For Sixth Consecutive Day, Highest In World For Two Days

The rise in cases also has a lot to do with the improved testing rate in India. India recorded the highest single-day testing on Monday by conducting over 6.6 lakh tests to diagnose COVID-19.

The COVID-19 tally in India took a leap by another 52,050 cases, taking the nationwide total to 18,55,746 (over 1.85 million). This is the sixth consecutive day the country has seen over 50,000 cases of the infectious disease. For the last two days, India has been reporting the highest cases across the world, overtaking the daily toll of the United States and Brazil. 803 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in India due to coronavirus.

According to the data on the Union Health Ministry’s website on Tuesday, 5,86,298 active cases of the infections are there and 38,938 have succumbed to the disease. 12,30,510 patients have been successfully cured or discharged.

The rise in cases also has a lot to do with the improved testing rate in India. India recorded the highest single-day testing on Monday by conducting over 6.6 lakh tests to diagnose Covid-19.

β€œIn its fight against Covid-19, India scales a new high of 6,61,715 tests in the last 24 hours,” the Union Health Ministry said in its tweet.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the number of Covid-19 tests carried out in India has also crossed the two crore-mark.

According to health ministry data, not only the fatality rate is at 2.11 percent, but the recovery rate from the coronavirus has also been 65.77 percent in the country.

The ministry also said that India continues to improve the Case Fatality Rate (CFR), and maintains its global position of having one of the lowest Covid-19 fatalities rates.
