Karnataka Postpones Opening Temples & Hotels, Opens Border For Maharashtra Visitors With Special Rules

Karnataka, which has successfully managed to keep the transmission of the disease under control, saw the highest daily spike on Sunday with 299 cases.

Bengaluru| On Sunday, the Karnataka government decided to shelve its plan of opening religious places, hotels, and malls by a week in accordance with the central government guidelines of Unlock 1.0. Although, the state government allowed to open its borders for free travel in the state, as long as they follow the home quarantine norms. The special rules will be applicable to all except the visitors from Maharashtra.

Karnataka, which has successfully managed to keep the transmission of the disease under control, saw the highest daily spike on Sunday with 299 cases. The majority of these cases- almost 80 percent- were reported among those who came back from Maharashtra. These patients were mostly migrants who had returned to their native places in districts of Yadgir, Udupi, Belagavi, or Bidar in North Karnataka adjacent to the border with Maharashtra. For the last two weeks, it has been consistent that over 80% of cases reported have been amongst those who have returned from Maharashtra.

Although those who returned from Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra – the high-risk states- were asked to go for a compulsory institutional quarantine, the new guidelines issued on Sunday restricted mandatory seven-day institutional quarantine only for the returnees from Maharashtra. Though, those with Covid-negative reports will be allowed to skip the mandatory institutional quarantine.

Transit travellers from the state of Maharashtra or any other state will have to show proof of their travel ticket in the destination state.

Business travellers will not need to follow the quarantine rules but will have to produce confirmed return tickets within 7 days of arrival, and address proof of their origin state. By road, rail or flight- the business travellers from Maharashtra- will have to produce their Covid-negative reports that are not older than two days prior to their travel to Karnataka, else they’ll have to stay in two-day institutional quarantine and get tested at their own cost during this period.

While the state was keen on restarting places of worship, hotels and malls and other activities, it has decided to abide by the central government guidelines and will open these places after 8th June.
