Kathua rape victims family drops lawyer Deepika Rajawat; cites absence from court

Pathankot | Deepika Rajawat, female laywer of the eight-year-old Kathua rape and murder victim has been apparently been dropped by the victims family citing her absence from the court proceedings.

The father of the victim told reporters that so far the case has been heard 100 times by the court and around 100 witnesses have been examined during the trial, but Ms Rajawat had only appeared twice for the family.

Responding to the news Rajawat termed the news as shocking She said,” Pathankot is 250 km away from me and no young lawyer wants to join me in Jammu as they are been threatened. She added that the work of both lower and high courts is up to me and currently I am struggling with financial crisis. Rajawat further claimed that the victims family never contacted her. They are far from the contact. Without naming anyone Rajawat alleged that some newcomers are trying to redeem it, I wish them all the best.

Deepika Rajawat was in the forefront in representing the victim who was raped and murdered in Rasana village of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir in January. The Supreme Court transferred the hearing of the case to a Pathankot court that has been holding the trial on a day-to-day basis.
