Kerala Rain: Yellow alert in 8 districts, school shut in 4 districts.

Kochi: After rigorous rainfall noticed in the southern parts of the country. Incidents in Kerala as incessant rain battered the state over the weekend. The heavy downpour disrupted life in the state, with water-logging reported in several areas. State on Tuesday issued a yellow alert in 8 districts along with schools to be fully shut in 4 districts.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod and Kozhikode districts for Tuesday.

All educational institutions will remain shut on Tuesday in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Alappuzha districts. Kerala University and MG University have cancelled their exams and have scheduled it for Tuesday.

Kerala has been receiving incessant rain over the weekend, prompting authorities to ask residents to stay alert. The incessant downpours over the weekend has led to water logging in several parts of the state. Several areas of Kerala’s Upper Kuttanad are heavily waterlogged.

Two toddlers died in separate rain-related incidents in Kerala as incessant rain battered the state over the last weekend. Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had cautioned about the possibility of landslides and flooding.

The heavy rains in inundated roads in several parts of Kerala also saw landslides in some parts of the state.

The water level in various dams in the state also rose to the red alert mark, prompting the government to open one of the shutters of Cheruthoni dam of Idukki reservoir on Sunday.

Kerala Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, in a Facebook post, said that in view of heavy rains in southern parts of the state, it has been decided to raise the shutters of the dam by 40 centimetres at 2.00 PM on Sunday to control the rising water level there.

Meanwhile the rains been worsening the condition in Kerala Congress leader Rahul Gandi appealed to the party workers to help out the people in Kerala.
