Maharashtra Nurses Complain About Low-Quality PPE, Masks Provided to Them

Showing a red-colored PPE kit in the video, she said, “Look at this kit given to us. It’s of such low-quality that it gets torn even if we try to wear it.”

Mumbai| Indumati Thorat, worker of Maharashtra Government Nurses Federation, made an appeal to the government through a video to complain about the low-quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and N95 masks given to the nurses and caretakers working on the front against the covid-19.

Addressing the media through the video, Thorat accused the administration of playing with the lives of doctors and nurses.

Showing a red-colored PPE kit in the video, she said, “Look at this kit given to us. It’s of such low quality that it gets torn even if we try to wear it.”

She also showed how the kit was easily torn when she stretched the material a bit. She accused that such low-quality kits are being given on local level to nurses and caretakers.

She showed another protective kit of better quality to prove her point. She tried to stretch the kit which in result did not tear up. But she said, those kits, were of a same size and aren’t suitable for everyone to wear.

“These kits are of number 1. Every person wears a different size. So not all can wear those kits,” Thorat added.

She also showed an N95 mask and another low-quality mask. She said that nurses and caretakers have been given the low-quality masks while treating Covid-19 patients. “These masks don’t have the name of the manufacturer on it, not even ISO mark.”

“Because of this, one of our caretakers has tested positive for coronavirus,” She said.

She said that she wants to show the government how the administration is making these health workers play with fire by not providing better quality equipment.

” We are following all the government orders and abiding by our duties. But for how long the administration is going to play with our lives? Today, one of our colleagues has tested positive. What if the numbers go up?” Thorat asked.

Many doctors, nurses have earlier complained about the lack of PPEs, N95 masks while treating coronavirus patients.
