Mamata Banerjee Accuses Centre Of Using COVID-19 Crisis For Politics

The Central government was playing favourites with the states and was operating according to a script, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said.

New Delhi: Today, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Central government, blaming it for using the novel coronavirus outbreak for playing politics, NDTV reported.

At the ongoing meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi with state Chief Minister, CM Mamta Banerjee said the Central government was playing favourites with the states and was working according to a script. “Nobody ever asks our opinion,” she said.

Prime Minister met with state Chief Ministers via video conferencing at 3 pm today. This was the fifth such meeting since the lockdown to curb the spread of the COVID-19 was imposed on March 25.

The discussion was about the lockdown, which is expected to end on May 17 and the areas where constraints might be relaxed. The Central government has already made it clear that the lifting of the lockdown will be phased and done gradually over a period.

The total cases in India surged to 67,152 including over 20,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 2,206 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 97 casualties were recorded. A staggering 4,213 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, highest so far.
