The prime minister emphasised on the need for an ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’, citing examples of Indian made toys and Indian breeds of dogs.

During the 68th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an all-out push for a self-reliant India in his address. The prime minister emphasised on the need for an ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’, citing examples of Indian made toys and Indian breeds of dogs.

Some parts of India, like Channapatna in Ramnagaram (Karnataka), Kondaplli in Krishna (Andhra Pradesh), Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, Dhubri in Assam, Varanasi in UP, are developing as toy clusters, that is, as centres of toys, the PM said.

He also stressed the importance of a rich tradition of local toys in our country. He said there are many talented and skilled artisans who possess expertise in making good toys.

PM Modi also highlighted the computer gaming sector, stressing that in this era of computers and smartphones, there is a big trend in computer games. However, he said that the themes of these games are mostly extraneous.

He said that either with the virtual gaming or with the local toy sector, all have to play a very important role, and therein lies an opportunity too.

He also said he has been told that Indian breed dogs are very good & competent. Citing examples of dogs trained by NDRF, he said they are experts in detecting alive persons under the debris in an earthquake or building collapse.

Citing the examples of India breed dogs like Mudhol Hound, Himachali Hound, the PM said our security agencies have also inducted Indian breed dogs in their units.

“Dear countrymen, everyone acknowledges the capability of Indians to offer innovation, solutions, when there is dedication & sensitivity, this power becomes limitless. At the beginning of this month an app innovation challenge was put before the youth of the country,” the PM said.

He also went on to cite examples of Indian origin apps that citizens can use.
