The quest for Gold: Mirabai Chanu breaks own record, wins gold at 21st Commonwealth Games

Mirabai Chanu bagged a Gold medal in women’s weightlifting in 48 kg category by lifting total 196 kg weight.

 

World champion weightlifter and 2014 commonwealth games silver medallist Mirabai Chanu made India proud once again today. Mirabai, in a nail-biting match, won the country its first Gold in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games going on in Australia.

The total weight lifted by the athlete is calculated on the basis of two rounds: 1. Snatch 2. Clean and jerk. Mirabai Chanu lifted 86 kg in snatch and 110 kg in Clean and Jerk. She won a Gold medal in women’s weightlifting in 48 kg category increasing the total weight lifted by her to 196 kg. She lifted the weight twice of her own bodyweight setting a new personal best record.

With this, Mirabai also reset her own Commonwealth Games record.
